The PANYS staff headed to Times Square once again for the Fleet Week demonstration starting off
Memorial Day festivities. PANYS wanted to present another perspective about the demonstration,
which had children posing with large rifles and "training" as a soldier would in preparation for war.

August 2009, New York City Hiroshima-Nagaski Commemoration in Central Park
On the 64th anniversary of the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, PANYS hosted a two-part
Commemorative Festival in Manhattan. In the morning, we made and floated colorful origami peace cranes with
young children at Central Park’s serene Harlem Meer. The commemoration continued later that evening at the
Friends Meeting House with Chiori Miyagawa’s renowned play I HAVE BEEN TO HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR.
